Cary Area EMS currently staffs 5 paramedic level ambulances, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Two ambulances run out of our main station including a peak-load ambulance, one truck runs out of Morrisville Fire Station 2, one out of Cary Fire Station 8 and another out of Cary Fire Station #5. Our workforce includes full-time, casual-time, and volunteer EMT’s. We have over 35 full-time field personnel and 2 administrative staff members including our Chief. Cary Area EMS prides itself on having the best staff, great equipment, and a very competitive benefits package for its full-time employees. Many of our full-time staff began as volunteers and were hired on when they decided to pursue a career in EMS. Additionally, several of our members have been with us for greater than 10 years, and even some for 20 years and beyond, demonstrating our commitment to employee satisfaction and retention.
Full-time shift person’s work either a rotating 24-hour shift or a 12-hour shift. A, B, and C shifts each work every other day for five days, and then are off for four days. D and E shifts work three consecutive days one week and two the next in an alternating basis. Administrative staff typically work Monday through Friday, 8am – 5pm.
Casual-time staff submit availability each month, and are scheduled as needed. Our casual time staff are typically EMT-Paramedic, and EMT-Intermediate level technicians. Compensation for casual-time employees is competitive and increases are given annually depending on experience, seniority, and positive evaluations.
